Etsy is an incredible place to buy plants. They have everything from cheap-ass Golden Pothos cuttings, to ACTUAL variegated Monstera adansonii, should you have a casual couple of grand to drop on a plant.
I don’t actually buy that many plants online, but I LOVE to browse them, which is really why I wrote this post – I’m currently social distancing, and am missing my weekly garden centre visits. May as well curate a list of Etsy shops.
The criteria for making the list:
- Rated 4.5+ stars
- Have more than 10 plants in stock
- Don’t sell anything dodgy (variegated monstera seeds, anyone?
This isn’t a ranked list – the first few shops ship worldwide, the next are shops that only ship to the US, then Europe only, then the UK only. I thought that would be the most useful way of arranging the list.
There are the occasional wild cards in there – some shops do cheap international shipping for small plants, but not large ones.
Also, there was no one correct way of arranging them, and I got sick of switching them around and then renumbering them.
Happy plant shopping – even if you’re just window shopping, it’s a great way to spend an afternoon.
1 – GardenGalsPlants

2 – AlchemieShop
I could spend some SERIOUS money here. Be warned. They have a lot of popular rare plants, including variegated adansonii, variegated syngonium, and more.

Worldwide shipping? I think so, and they do a lot of free shipping offers.
Red flags? The shop is in Jakarta, so transit damage is likely, but I read the reviews and it seems that the shop packages their products well.

Red flags? No, but make sure you check the option you want – a few of the plants have the (cheaper) option of being shipped bare root.
What to watch out for when buying plants from Etsy
- Misnamed/misidentified plants – don’t drop £4,000 on an Obliqua unless you know what you’re doing. Although you can find some gems by intentionally searching for mispelled plants. Like you could on eBay back in the day.
- ‘Rare’ plants that are super expensive. Do your research.
- A cutting being sold as a plant – especially with variegated monstera
- Seeds. Don’t buy seeds for rare house plants unless you’re 100% sure what you’re getting.
- Check your shipping costs. If you find a plant you like with exorbital shipping costs, either check one of the other shops on the list or put the plant in the Etsy search bar, and set your preferences to ship to your country. It’ll often list the shops that offer free shipping to your country.
- If it seems too good to be true, it probably is.
