Yeah, plants do this thing where they only have one symptom but a dozen causes for that symptom! When you say bite mark, do mean like from a big animal, an insect, or perhaps the leaves got torn? This might indicate the plant hs been damaged in transportation.

If you’re worried about pests, check any new growth for similar marks. If they’re coming out brown spot-free, you’re probably not dealing with active pests. Brown spots can be from overwatering (in which case check that the roots aren’t brown/mushy and don’t water until the soil is dry), underwatering, or sunburn. The scab description makes me think maybe sunburn.

It can also be from water sitting on the leaves, which can happen if the plant is misted.

Unfortunately, it’s sometimes practically impossible to tell what’s caused brown marks, and you have to wait for new growth so see if it happens again.

I’ve recently got a peperomia from my local store. I’ve bought it as a adult and when I bought it it’s leaves had bite marks on two and brown marks on the leaves (best way to describe it is like a scab but on a leaf?). I don’t know whether it’s pests, whether the pests are still on the plant or whether they’re old wounds, or whether the problem is something else. I’ve desperately searched online how to deal with pests or trouble shoot the problem but I can’t tell which ‘browning’ it is from the endless list of types.
