Haha I have a Rhaphidophora Tetrasperma doing this exact same thing at the moment - not a root to be seen but a lush new growth point. It's not ideal, but the cutting *seems* to know what it's doing. The only advice I have is to do whatever to can to promote root growth - keep the water fresh, keep it in a warm spot, and consider adding some nutrients to the water.

Hi! This is great information, thank you! I have a multi-node monstera cutting that I have divided into three and propped in water. Two of the cuttings have rooted very well and are each popping up a new leaf. The third (and smallest) one is not rooting at all, though. Literally no roots have grown from the cutting, but there is, weirdly, new leaf growing. I'm not sure if I should continue to worry or should I celebrate?

Thanks, glad you liked it! In my experience, large cuttings can take longer to root than smaller ones, but once they do, they put out new growth faster than smaller ones. Good luck!

What a fantastic article! I really enjoyed reading it, and it had all the info I needed. I have a large cutting and it's not rooting, and it's getting to be autumn down here in New Zealand and she's just not rooting much. With your advice, I have moved her into a larger vessel for aeration, and bought a humidifier. Thanks so much!
