In reply to <a href="https://planethouseplant.com/why-does-my-soil-dry-out-so-quickly/#comment-18214">Marsha Boone</a>.

When I started all my plants were in terracotta and I had exactly the same issue you’re having. I switched all of them (other than succulents) over to plastic nursery pots (literally dumped from one pot to another)and they all either didn’t react at all or grew much quicker.

The only thing to be careful of is that roots can stick to the inside of the pot so be gentle when you’re removing them. If they’re sticking to the pot, soaking in water will get them to unstick.

Good luck!

Thank you for this really well-done article.
Do you have any experience of switching from terracotta to plastic grower pots for plants that are going through too much water?
I have a ficus elástica ‘tineke’ in a beautiful home-made soil sitting in a south window in a terracotta pot and it would like to be watered every 3 days! I’m wondering if a switch to a plastic grower pot would buy me at least 4 more days…I’d really rather water no more than once a week.
