It could be - take the plant out and have a look. What potting mix is the monstera in? Some suppliers use a mix heavy on the moss/coir which is really good at retaining water. Take some of the soil out and add in some perlite or orchid bark. Switching to a terracotta pot can also help.

The best way to dry a plant out is to leave it outside, but I get that that isn’t always an option in cold/wet countries. A few minutes with a blow dryer (set to cool) will do the job (I didn’t just make that up by the way, professional cactus growers do this!)

I have the same problem as Cal, I haven't watered my monstera in weeks and the soil is still pretty damp. And some (older) leaves are starting to yellow. Also, I misted the leaves several weeks ago so not sure if that's the reason why. I stopped misting since. Is root rot the culprit?

Yeah, there’s definitely a risk. What soil are you using? It’s incredible that it’s stayed moist for a month. Is someone else secretly watering it?

I really enjoyed this information and appreciate it so much. I have a question. If I watered my Monstera a month ago and the soil still feels moist at the top, am I going to give it root rot by having it sit in moist soil for a month or longer (because it’s still pretty moist)? Thank you.

It’s called guttation and it’s totally normal - basically the plant takes up too much water and expels it through the leaves. It CAN be a sign of overwatering but it also happens in healthy plants. As long as you’re not watering when the soil’s wet it’ll be fine.

Thanks for the articel, very helpful! I've had my new monstera for a couple weeks - water about 1x per week when moisture meter is dry, and pretty much follow the water instructions here. I've noticed that after watering my Monstera has water droplets at the end of the leaves for a few days - xylem sap so the internet says. Do you know if that's just natural? Or is that a sign of over watering? Thanks!
