I do largely agree with you BUT I think they’re one of those plants that you either get or you don’t – they didn’t hold interest until I’d been into plants for YEARS. There’s also so much misinformation about them which can be a pain for noobs.

They’re a large and diverse family with a multitude of different growth habits beyond the strap-leaved phalaenopsis. You can grow them in pots, mounted, in terrariums … some members go dormant for half the year — so you can basically forget about them until they wake up and reward you with lots of new growth. Moreover, when they do bloom they tend to bloom for a very long time – months, in the case of sequential bloomers. I think you’re doing them a disservice!
